Message After about a year of having these parts .. I finally put them to good use. If you want the complete story, check out my ZCON post here

I swapped over my Abeler manfolds, down pipes, exhaust as the SZ reinforced inconels I had were developing cracks. I couldn't source any MS manfolds in the time that I had, so I took the items off of the Demon Z instead.

Below are a few pics of the installation

Abeler manifolds installed ( lowers the turbos deeper into the chassis. No more engine pulls to swap out turbos anymore ! )

Abeler custom 3 inch downpipes ( is that titanium ? )

once mounted onto the test pipe, there only 2 bends to maximize exhaust gas velocity

custom 3 inch test pipes

tight fit --but it fits with little fab work needed ( re-orient compressor inlet 2 bolt flange and shave motor mount )

V-Bands - no more bolts !

My observations are the following :

I previously had the Labree Ultimate downpipes ( and yes, they are a PITA to remove as compared to SS downpipes )

I used to have
1) sport 600 / 3 inch random tech downpipe / ported manifolds

and I used to have the
2) GT28RS / 2.5 inch SZ SS downpipe / Inconel manifolds

previous to my most recent setup of
3)GT28RS / 3 inch Ultimate Downpipe / Inconel manifolds.

I can say that I immediately noticed some torque loss ( how much ? I DNK ) below 3.5K rpm to the ultimate downpipe setup and the car below 3.5k feels more like the SZ SS downpipe setup that I was running.

I can say that above 3.5k the Z pulls extremely hard ( it seems to pull better up top than the SZ SS downpipe setup ). Also what is interesting is that my boost response seems better ( quicker to spool ) than previously.

Right now the Z is running rich ( dual widebands show A/F @ 10:5 ), so I will retune in the near future

After thinking about it a little, everything seems to make sense. I could be wrong on this, If I am, someone keep me honest in my thoughts.

The benefit of a divorced downpipe is exhaust gas velocity not turbulance. The wastegate doesn't flow / open until the cracking pressure is reached. Until then the turbine side is flowing into the smaller downpipe tube as compared to an open 3 inch downpipe and consequently will have higher velocity speeds. Once the wastegate opens at say 15psi on a big turbo car, the wastegate exhaust gas will flow uninterupted in a divorced downpipe design.

In a 3 inch downpipe with no divorced design, once spooling, the wastegate exhaust interacts with the turbine exhaust. Though there maybe some turbulence, I believe that the wastegate exhaust velocity speed is faster due to the interaction with the turbine side exhaust. I think the example of how two streams of water interact when one is moving faster than the other best suits what I am trying to describe here.

Short story, I think that the max boost will be reached quicker on an open down pipe design ( less restriction / more open area ) with the sacrifice being some mid range torque.

On a big turbo car, it might produce max power faster with an open down pipe design. I have never seen a dyno chart in time series so I could be totally wrong here in my thoughts.

Anyway, I am looking forward to re-tuning the Z to see how well these manifolds flow with the open exhaust setup I have. Once tuned, this baby should make some good power up top and my midrange torque may come back with the proper 11:5 setup. If not, leader gears may be an option down the road depending on how I like the power band.
